From the very beginning of his life, music has been a part of Jay Rush’s soul. He was born Johnathan Jennings onJanuary 24, 1982 in Toledo Ohio to a musically gifted family. His singing career began when members of his family (including his brother, platinum-selling R&B/Soul singer Lyfe Jennings) formed a group called The Dotsons. As Jay Rush grew older, his life took a turn from music to the streets. Those same streets are credited for making him a man, and that is what he sings. The musical influences of Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway, Sam Cooke, and 2Pac Shakur, helped Jay Rush to develop his own musical genre called “Street Soul”. Today this music is proof of a grown man who possesses an incomparable talent with unstoppable determination. Jay Rush's music offers a gritty glimpse into his life's journey thus far.
In 2007 Jay Rush was a featured artist on B.E.T.'s 106 & Park and was also selected as B.E.T."s artist of the week 3 times. He has received recognition for his work over the last few years receiving awards for Best Male Vocalist two years in a row (2009 and 2010) at the Ohio Hip Hop Awards and also 2009 at the 419 Awards. Jay also won Best Collaboration (OHHA) in 2010 for the song “See Me Shine” alongside Bone Thugs & Harmony. Jay Rush has made appearances on The Who's Next Music Series for Hot 97 in New York where he opened for MIMS, Hood Hard TV, and the Verizon Wireless Music Sound Stage in Atlanta and several other opening act performances. Most recently, Jay Rush performed during the Bone Thugs & Harmony tour in 2008 & 2010. He’s soulful talent has been featured on numerous mix cd's with some of the hottest DJ's around the world: DJ AARIES, DJ CHUCK CLASIK, DJ 1 TYME, DJ MYSTYKAL KUT-FRANCE, DJ PYRO-GERMANY & DJ TOWER-TORONTO to name a few. Jay Rush has worked hard spreading the sounds of his Street Soul Music working with artist such as Big Noyd, Styles P, AZ, & Foxy Brown. Jay Rush's most recent features were on Playaz Cirlcle of DTP Flight 360 Album 2009 and Bone Thugs & Harmony’s The Uni-5 Single "See Me Shine" 2010
